It does not have to be complicated but unfortunately it is. God made us to bask in the pleasures of his glory but sin severed our union with him. For this very purpose the Son of God appeared to destroy the works of the devil and restore us to where we belong. When he appeared, however, no one could have recognized the King coming in the simplicity of a baby wrapped in diapers laying in a manger, but make no mistake, the baby of Bethlehem is none other than Christ, the Lord.

In a world of scarcity, God gives us Christ’s sufficiency. Christ is the Word of life
who became flesh, Creator, Sustainer, Life, Light, Victor and the One who gives
us the right to become children of God. He is greater than Moses and the law itself for he is its fulfillment and who brought us the humanly impossible gift of
God’s grace.

Either Christ is Lord of all or he is not Lord at all. Jesus will not tolerate nice
titles and a good place among many in the pantheon of our idolatrous allegiances. Christ was born to be supreme and the sole ruler of our hearts. The world will not take kindly to that but it doesn’t matter how hard the world tries, Jesus is and will always be supreme for he is King of kings and Lord of lords. Are you ready to surrender your life to him?

It may be the most wonderful time of the year but it is also the most cluttered one.
In the many activities, gifts, advertisements and multiple agendas of the season, it
is easy to forget the real reason for the season. In this passage, Paul reminds us of
the dangers of being distracted from the supremacy, sufficiency, and simplicity of
Jesus Christ and recalibrates us to fix our eyes on Christ, the Lord.

Everything the law demanded, Christ came to provide. Moses was keenly aware
of our human need and predicament under the consequences of sin. The transitory
nature of our lives and the duress of a world subject to decay are aspects of our
broken humanity that can easily leave us hopeless. For Moses, however, there is a
refuge, a dwelling place that is able to lift our eyes to the One who can give us an
eternal home. This Christmas, let us listen to the invitation of this Psalm to come
back home.
