En nuestra naturaleza pecaminosa, solemos pensar que el descanso es algo que nos ganamos tras trabajar duro. Sin embargo, en el plan de Dios, el descanso no se gana, sino que se da y se recibe. Aunque Dios le dio a Israel el sábado para crear una cultura de personas dependientes de su gracia, ellos rechazaron constantemente su invitación por orgullo. Jesús vino a invitarnos a regresar a la fuente de toda gracia. Porque él nos creó y nuestro corazón está inquieto hasta que descansa en él.

In our fallen ways, we often think rest is what we earn after working hard. In
God’s plan, however, rest cannot be earned, but can be given and received. Even though God gave Israel the Sabbath to create a culture of people dependent of his
grace, they constantly turned down his invitation in the pride of their hearts. Jesus
came to invite us to back to the source of all grace. For he made us and our heart
is restless until our it rests in him.

¿Qué diferencia hace? | Éxodo 20:8-11

El sábado es el ritmo sagrado de Dios que recuerda a sus criaturas redimidas su misericordiosa y generosa provisión. Dios quiso crear una cultura completamente distinta a la de las naciones caídas del mundo; una cultura que recibiera de todo corazón su gracia y se entregara a él con total entrega. Su cultura debía ser un ritmo constante de recibir de Dios para ofrecerle sacrificios vivos y voluntarios. Ya no adorarían ídolos vacíos por miedo y carencia, sino que la adoración sería una respuesta a Aquel que los creó y redimió, para bendecirlo, bendiciendo a otros como ellos mismos fueron bendecidos.

What Difference Does it Make? | Exodus 20:8-11

Sabbath is God’s sacred rhythm reminding his redeemed creatures of his gracious
generous provision. God wanted to create a whole culture different from the fallen
nations of the world; a culture that would wholeheartedly receive his grace and
whole heartedly surrender to him. Theirs was to be a culture where one’s life is a
constant rhythm of receiving from God to offer back as willing, living sacrifices.
No longer would they worship empty idols out of fear and lack but worship would
be a reply to the One who made them and redeemed them to bless him, blessing
others as they themselves were blessed.

La Provisión del Sabbath en la Creación | Génesis 1-3

En Génesis 1 y 2, Dios crea un mundo bueno con el poder de su palabra. Día a día, moldea el mundo, creando espacio y tiempo para sus criaturas. La humanidad es su obra final, creada al final del sexto día. La humanidad es la última de las obras de Dios. En su bondad, Dios les dio el sábado a sus criaturas, rey y reina, como una provisión para entrar en la gloria de su magnífica gracia. La creación debe ser disfrutada y utilizada como una ventana a la bondad del corazón de Dios. Un instrumento de asombro y provisión que nos recuerda lo que más importa: estar correctamente relacionados con Dios, con los demás y con el mundo. Paradójicamente, es en el descanso donde crecemos.

Sabbath’s Provision in Creation | Genesis 1, 2

In Genesis 1 and 2 God creates a good world with the power of his word. Day by
day he shapes the world carving space and time for his creatures. Humanity is his
final work, created at the end of the sixth day. Humanity is the last of God’s
works. In his kindness, God provided Sabbath for his creatures, king and queen,
as a provision to enter into the glory of his magnificent grace. Creation is to be
enjoyed and used as a window into the goodness of God’s heart. An instrument of
wonder and provision pointing back to that which matters most- being rightly
related to God, each other and the world. Paradoxically, it is in rest that we grow.
