Numbers 22-24 reveals the battle God must confront to equip his people to raise the next generation of believers who will inherit his promises. To do this, God must fight a battle in two fronts. First, on the microcosms of his relationships with his people, God must equip, organize and confront their sins. On a macrocosm, God must confront the spiritual forces that seek to break havoc and derail his plan. In both fronts, God’s people may rest assure that he will faithfully fight to make sure his will prevails in spite of the oppositions within his people’s hearts and outside in the spiritual realm.

Some actions have consequences that cannot be undone. Just like the words we utter from our mouth, once we say it we can never take them back. In these passages we will see how God deals with people who constantly abuse his grace and make complaining a lifestyle. When we abuse God’s grace, we must be careful for his justice may be next.

Have you ever missed a flight? You can beg the airline personnel but once that door closes it will not open for you even if you beg. You have missed the flight. In Numbers 13-17, the Exodus generation is given a chance to inherit the promised land but they miss their opportunity due to their unbelief. As a result, they are sentenced to die in the desert and to wander in circles for 40 years. In the desert, unbelief turns to mutiny and rebellion but in spite of this. God continues to be faithful working on behalf of those who often resist his grace. How will you respond to God when he gives you a chance to inherit his promises? Will you miss the flight?

When God gives us his word we can comply or we can complain. We complain when we forget the why (“complY) of God’s instructions and instead focus on the “ain’t” (complaint). Either way, the choice is ours and with our choice the consequences. Will you comply or complain?

There are many more desirable ways to spend our time than going to the doctor. Many of us tend to put yearly check ups or health screenings at the bottom of our priority list unless pain makes it necessary to take care of our health. In chapters 5-10 of the book of Numbers, God assesses the health of his people highlighting the priorities that will lead to a healthy and flourishing lifestyle and exhorting them to make life changes so that they can experience his blessing.
