Christ is supreme and sufficient in our lives. This is simply the message of the gospel for in all things Christ must be preeminent for those who call him Lord and Savior. May this Christmas season be a time for us to ponder the mystery of the One who is our all in all, Light of the world, Life, and Love.

Why should followers of Jesus not get over the message of Christmas after December 25?

Followers of Jesus must celebrate Christmas as the beginning of a season of Kingdom anticipation proclaiming…

I. Christ as Lord over God’s creation (Col. 1:15-17).

a. Christ, the true imago Dei, preeminent over all creation, owner and sustainer above all.

b. In him all things hold together: Is your life together?

II. Christ as Lord over God’s new creation (Col. 1:18-23).

a. The head of a new, undying humanity, glorified humanity.

b. The redeemer and restorer of God’s new creation: Getting closer to the God who has made himself closer.

Don’t make Christmas a seasonal celebration.

Make Christmas the beginning of a season of Kingdom anticipation.

1. How do you interact with God’s creation? Whether it is your job, relationships with other humans or other living beings, do you live in such a way that the presence of Christ in your life makes you a catalyst of wellbeing bringing wholesome integrity wherever your foot lands, or are you an instrument of corruption and disintegration?

2. How does Christ want to equip you to become a catalyst of reconciliation in a world of human alienation? The church should be a place where those who are far from God are made near. Who is getting closer to God because of your influence?

Sabbath’s Provision in Redemption | Exodus 15-16

In Egypt, the people of Israel had learned to survive as slaves. Their life was cheap and they were expendable. Everyone had to pull their weight. For many years they knew nothing but toil and pain. But God heard their cry and rescued them. gave them a new life. In this new life, he gave them the Sabbath as a lesson to learn to depend not on their own effort but on God’s grace. To live as the redeemed, free people of God would now mean to learn to depend, not on their own efforts, but on his generous grace.
