Welcome to the Family | Acts 2:42-47-4:32-37

People are searching for authentic community—but rarely find it. The early church didn’t grow because it marketed itself well, but because it lived differently. Their shared life was so compelling it drew people in—and so holy it unsettled them. What if the most powerful apologetic isn’t what we say, but how we live together?

What is it like to be adopted into God’s family?

Those who are adopted into God’s family are welcomed into a community of…

I. Rightly restored relationships (Worship, Discipleship, Mission) Acts 2:42-47.
     a. Worship: Indwelling – my relationship with God, our Father (breaking of bread and prayers) 2:42, John 14:23.
     b. Discipleship: Instructing – my relationship with my brothers and sisters (apostles teaching and fellowship) 2:42.
     c. Mission: Inviting – my relationship with those who are not His yet (the Lord added) 2:47.

II. Sacrificial generosity and missional hospitality (2:43-47, 4:32-37).
     a. Sacrificial generosity: sharing God’s spiritual and material blessings (2:44-45, 4:32-37).
     b. Missional hospitality: Your home is God’s base in the mission field (2:46).

The Church is a Spirit indwelled, instructed, and inviting family,
where the devotion of our hearts is demonstrated
by the generosity of our hands and hospitality of our homes.
Let’s be the family our neighbors crave.

1. Worship, discipleship, and mission are the three strategic priorities at the center of our ministries at DFBC. These areas are not particularly original but they are distinctively Christian. This is what we see displayed as a picture of health in the early church. Healthy things grow, but not everything that grows is healthy. God wants us to be both fruitful and faithful. Are you willing to be faithful in these areas to become fruitful?
2. Generosity and hospitality are the virtues that set the context for healthy relationships. As God provides for our needs and welcomes us into His family through His Son, he also provides the resources for us to share with those in need. Joy is the result of willing sacrificial generosity (2 Cor 9:7). What is God calling you to do today to further His kingdom through His generosity?

Power Before Programs | Acts 1

We live in a world obsessed with strategy—plans, systems, and measurable outcomes. Churches are no different. But before the church ever had a program, it had a promise. Before it had a strategy, it had to wait. And before it moved, it received power. If we rush ahead without what Jesus said we need most, we may be busy—but we won’t be effective.
