Freedom from the bondage of sin and the oppressive powers of this world does not come easy. God is at war with the powers that, behind the curtains, control the human players of every age. For every hardened heart and institution that opposes God and his redemptive purposes, there are spiritual powers at play that God must vanquish before redemption makes a way to rescue and restore those whom God has called to be his redeemed and renewed people.

How does God break the bondage of the dark forces that enslave his people?

 

In order to break the bondage of the dark forces enslaving his people, God must personally intervene…

 

I. Crushing the pride of worldly tyrants to reveal himself as the only all powerful and sovereign God who solely controls our fate Exodus 5-11 (cf. Ex. 5:2, 7:1-4, 12:12).

II. To free those whose faith depends on the fulfillment of God’s covenant promises of grace (Exodus 12, cf. Romans 2:4-5).

 

If you hear his voice today,

Do not harden your heart (Hebrews 3:7).

 

1. We live in a culture where we believe we are the masters of our destiny; control over our lives is an illusion that arises from our self-centered desires. What areas of your life is God allowing to be transformed so that you can soften your heart to his call?

 

2. The humble heart of the Lamb of God was broken by our transgressions. Only those who approach him in faith will survive God’s judgment. Who do you trust for your security and your significance?
