What does restoration require for God’s people to experience his life-giving presence?
Restoration to fellowship with God requires…
I. Heartfelt contrition (Exodus 33:1-6).
II. A recalibrated passion for God’s glory (Exodus 33:12-23).
- God’s face in the Old Testament (Ex. 33:20).
- God’s face in the New Testament (Matt. 17:1-8, 2 Cor. 3:12-4:6).
III. A renewed commitment to God’s word (Exodus 34-40, John 14:23-27, John 8:31-32).
God’s restoration
Must first break us
To remake us.
Do not resist his love.
Trust his word.
1. What areas of your life is the Lord allowing you to experience brokenness to draw you closer to him? If there is any unrepentant sin, bring it to the Lord for your first step in the direction of restoration.
2. How often does God’s glory capture your heart in such a way that everything else you desire is secondary to the joy of his presence? When you spend time in the presence of God, his glory transforms you more and more into his likeness. When was the Last time you came down “from the mountain” with a shining face?
3. Abiding in God’s word is the one necessary thing for spiritual freedom and true Christ-like transformation. Are you making room in your life for his word to dwell in your heart? (cf. Col. 3:16)
