Are We Ready to Grow? | Hebrews 4:1-13

"Yes, the good news of the gospel is that Jesus paid it all. And yet, there are some who still hold to unbelief in toil, grief, greed and self-righteous works that can never save. Our only hope is God’s Word who sees it all. Even today, God is inviting us to come and in him, find our rest. Only then, will we be able to grow. The question is, are we ready? Are we ready to grow?"

What will your final rest be like?

Followers of Jesus are called to embrace a mindset of ultimate biblical stewardship based on…

  1. The eternal security of their salvation: a life-long journey (Heb. 3:1-4:3).
    1. Are you for real? The challenge of mixed audience [3:7-12 (cf. Psalm 95)].
    2. The cause of a rebellious and hardened heart: unbelief (3:18-19).
    3. The security of those who believe [4:1-3 (cf. 1 John 5:13, Romans 11:1-7)].
  2. Christ’s gracious invitation to rest (rely) on him for all of our present and future needs: a life-changing journey (Heb. 4:3-11).
    1. Sabbath rest: living our today in light of God’s tomorrow.
    2. Sabbath as a picture of God’s provision for our final rest (Rev. 21:1-11, 22:1-5).
  3. Their awareness of ultimate accountability before the Word: a life-giving journey (Heb. 4:12-13).

The to-morrow of eternity is decided by the to-day, when we hear His voice. If God’s to-day be too soon for thy repentance, thy to-morrow may be too late for God’s acceptance. – DL Moody

Get ready to grow!

  1. Sabbath is a good picture of God’s provision for ultimate salvation. Salvation is God’s gift by grace received through faith. It rests on the sufficiency of completed work on Christ, not our feeble works of self-righteousness. If you have trusted Christ for your salvation, you can rest in Sabbath joy of your salvation where you must cease from works in the trust of his.
  2. When all is said and done about your life, God will have the final word. What will he say about the way you lived your life?
  3. There is no better investment of our lives than God’s glory. His dividends compound eternally! Are you ready to be a life-giver?

Lord of Sabbath | Matthew 12:1-14

Apart from grace, we are all slaves to the futility of our fallen world. Everything, no matter how sublime, we touch, turns to dust corrupted by our sin. Jesus, the Lord of the Sabbath came to set all things right. Sabbath was made for us, to experience the goodness of God. Not for self-righteous displays of elitists religious crowds hindering access to God. But grace is a threat that must be removed for the monopoly of religious technocrats to hold the status quo of their fake “holier than thou” religious flare. And so, they did. The Lord of the Sabbath,…

Jesus’ Sabbath Invitation to Come | Matthew 11:25-30

In our fallen ways, we often think rest is what we earn after working hard. In God’s plan, however, rest cannot be earned, but can be given and received. Even though God gave Israel the Sabbath to create a culture of people dependent of his grace, they constantly turned down his invitation in the pride of their hearts. Jesus came to invite us to back to the source of all grace. For he made us and our heart is restless until our it rests in him.

What Difference Does it Make? | Exodus 20:8-11

Sabbath is God’s sacred rhythm reminding his redeemed creatures of his gracious generous provision. God wanted to create a whole culture different from the fallen nations of the world; a culture that would wholeheartedly receive his grace and whole heartedly surrender to him. Theirs was to be a culture where one’s life is a constant rhythm of receiving from God to offer back as willing, living sacrifices. No longer would they worship empty idols out of fear and lack but worship would be a reply to the One who made them and redeemed them to bless him, blessing others as…
