Everything the law demanded, Christ came to provide. Moses was keenly aware of our human need and predicament under the consequences of sin. The transitory nature of our lives and the duress of a world subject to decay are aspects of our broken humanity that can easily leave us hopeless. For Moses, however, there is a refuge, a dwelling place that is able to lift our eyes to the One who can give us an eternal home. This Christmas, let us listen to the invitation of this Psalm to come back home.

In the midst of this life’s brokenness and uncertainties, what can those who make God their dwelling place expect?

When God is your dwelling place…

I. Time is an opportunity to experience eternity (Psalm 90:1-4).

II. Weakness is an opportunity to experience God’s power (Psalm 90:5-11).

III. Life is an opportunity to experience God’s redemptive plan (Psalm 90:12-17).

If home is where the heart is,

And your heart is where your treasure is,

Make God the treasure of your heart

And he will be your eternal home.

1. Are you living your life in light of God’s eternal promises or the temporary fears and anxieties of this world? Settle in your heart today to delight yourself in the Lord so that the desires of your heart will be satisfied by him (Psalm 37:4).

2. Where are you in need of experiencing God’s power? Invite him to intervene in your life today and see what only he can do!

Comfort food. We all have a meal or two we go to when we need to be cheered up. The trauma the first disciples experienced after the Passover meal was almost unbearable. How could they move on? Thank God for the resurrection! The new day of the resurrection assures us death is not the end. A new day is coming where death will be no more and where, non surprisingly, Jesus will meet us a the table again with the ultimate comfort food anticipating the Kingdom to come.

A death sentenced criminal last meal is a grace given before the end. This was a meal meant to offer freedom and the joy of a new beginning. The host himself offered forgiveness and abundant life in God’s kingdom and yet, this meal became his last anticipating his imminent death. Paradoxically a gracious life-giving, liberating meal marked Jesus as someone who was born to die as a criminal but was innocent as a lamb. Jesus’s last supper is an invitation to trade places where he offers his life for our death and where we surrender our life for his glory.…
