A resilient hope enables believers to join God in the fulfillment of his promises in his redemptive plan…
I. Setting them apart to live according to the ways of the Word, not the ways of the world: Sanctification Genesis 24:1-34.
a. The journey of hope embracing God’s words and God’s ways: Abraham’s hope of sanctification (1 Peter 1:13-16, ḥesed v. 24).
b. Trusting God with our most intimate needs: Abraham’s oath and the servant’s prayer (Gen. 3:15, Genesis 17, 1 Thess 4:1-8, James 4:1-8, 1 John 5:14-15).
II. Satisfying their needs for the fulfillment of God’s covenantal promises: Providence Genesis 24:35-67.
a. Human responsibility: the prayer, tact, courage and obedience of God’s people in spite of the world’s deceptive ways Romans 12:1-2.
b. Divine providence: God’s presence to protect and provide even when we can’t see him Romans 8:28-32.
To choose life, don’t settle for the momentary scraps of the world
When God offers you the eternal inheritance of his Word.
1. What areas of your life does God want to sanctify to restore his blessing?
2. In what ways is God asking you to exercise self-control and delay gratification in obedience to his word?
3. What needs does God want you to bring in prayer to him to discern his provision and your part in the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan?
4. How is your relational life (single or married) reflecting the values of God’s kingdom in this broken world?
