How do we know when we are making progress in our mission? In order to know we must count. Statistics always tell a story. Whether this is information about population trends in a census or the quality of our health in a blood sample analysis, numbers always tell a story. In the case of the nation of Israel, the book of Numbers tells the story of God’s work to equip and organize his people to inherit his promises. What will God’s counting reveal about the condition of their faith?

How does God strengthen his saved and sanctified people to inherit his promises?

Divine enablement precedes missional engagement, resourcing his people to produce…

  1. Strong purposeful individuals: Everyone counts – Numbers 1.
    1. Strong purposeful individuals and families: God knows you by name.
    2. Strong and purposeful leadership: Called to take initiative.
  2. Strong committed community: Everyone belongs – Numbers 2.
    1. Their tribes and families under their own standard: physical needs (military duty).
    2. The tent of meeting and the Levites – God at the center: spiritual needs (ministry).
  3. Strong God-centered Ministries: Everyone under God – Numbers 3-4.
    1. Purpose, leadership, organization and resources for ministry. Priesthood, Levites, all Israel – Numbers 3.
    2. Taking care of the most vulnerable: mutuality and concern (Kohathites) – Numbers 4.

Divine enablement precedes missional engagement. God doesn’t count you to shelve you, God counts you to send you. Are you ready to be strong?

  1. Everyone counts: God knows you by name and has a plan for your life. Is his calling clear to you and his purpose in your life?
  2. You are needed: In a strong body, every member is important. Do you know what God has called you to do as part of DFBC?
  3. How is God calling you to support DFBC’s ministries and ministers? Perhaps today is a good day to share some encouragement for those who are at the battlefront to strengthen their hands.
